Hi there - Thanks for getting in touch with us and for asking us your question. Cereals are officially measured according to weight(grams), not volume(cups). Please note that the volume (cup) size is a guideline and the more accurate serving size for the product is shown in weight(grams). If you are following a special diet, it is always recommended to weight the cereal rather than measure it to achieve accurate results. The density of the cereal can fluctuate, therefore altering the volume of cereal in a serving. i.e. denser pieces or pieces with more moisture will weigh more than less dense or drier pieces. Therefore if you measure the cereal into a cup, the weight can vary each time. Take care, Itziar

I just bought one box from Costco yesterday and can’t wait to try this morning. Kamut, quinoa and amaranth are “Super Grains” referred by some nutritionists. The cereal tastes great, but a little sweet just as some people said. I wish you could provide a sugarless version to make it healthier. I know some like it sweet. But it would be better to provide consumers (especially those with health concerns) more options and it’s never too late to add sweetness at table, is it right?

I’m a huge fan of Ancient Grains. I could easily burn through an entire bag in one sitting. My question is in regards to the organic soy oil listed on the product. How does Nature’s Path process this oil? I’m curious if there are any hidden trans fats in this product that consumers should be aware of.

Hi Sam – We appreciate you taking the time to get in touch with your question. I’m happy to share that our organic soybean oil is expeller pressed, cold pressed pure oil extracted from soybean. This provides the benefits of having traces of soy protein, which highly refined oils don’t have. Soy provides many positive benefits particularly for the many vegetarians who eat Nature’s Paths products & require the protein that soy offers. There is no hidden Trans Fat in this product - at Nature’s Path we are committed to producing quality organic foods, using the best ingredients available. All the best, Itziar

Hi Karen, we assume you are referring to the following quote from December 15, 2011. “we think sugars are part of healthy eating when in moderation and especially when included in a nutritious meal like a bowl of our granola. Even still, we’re fully aware that people are seeking low sugar options, and so I’ve told the Brand Manager about your concerns.” - We only use organic sweeteners in our products and believe that sugars, in moderation, are part of healthful eating. The body does need sugar for energy BUT it needs to be part of a total day’s menu plan, personal health condition & everyone’s unique taste preferences. We have over 80 products with a variety of sweetness levels and have many products with fewer than 5g of sugar per serving. We are aware that some of our friends are searching for low sugar and sugar free foods. Currently, our R & D team is working hard to create new products for you to enjoy- minus the sugar. This is good granola (I agree it’s a bit too sweet), but I was wondering why the grains in the ingredient list are not “whole grains.” I was taught to look for the word “whole” to be sure that’s what they are. The cereal claims 31 g of whole grains per serving, but I’m not sure how that can be if the grains themselves aren’t whole. Thanks.

Hi Angela and thanks for sharing your feedback. We use evaporated organic cane juice as our sugar sweetener (with exceptions, where we sometimes use fruit juices, molasses, barley malt, brown rice syrup, etc). This evaporated cane juice is only refined to the point of having most of the sugar solids intact. By contract, the refinement process for white sugar involves many more steps. If a white product is desired, sulfur dioxide may be bubbled through the cane juice before evaporation; this chemical bleaches many color-forming impurities into colorless ones. Sugar bleached white by this sulfitation process is called “mill white,” “plantation white,” and “crystal sugar.” This chemical process wouldn’t be allowed by organic standards. We think sugars, in moderation, are part of healthful eating when found in nutritious foods like this granola. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

So glad to have found an organic cereal at Costco that does not only have wheat in it… better yet, no wheat at all !!! These cereals are delicious… the only negative comment I have is that it is a bit too sweet and the unrefined cane sugar comes 2nd in the ingredients. Could easily be a little less sweet and would still be delicious !!!

Hi Annie and thanks for sharing your feedback. While wheat might not be a listed ingredient, please be aware that this isn’t considered gluten-free due to the oats. Our oats are not certified gluten-free as there is a risk of cross contamination with wheat, barley, and rye at in the field and during the milling process. That being said, we think sugars are part of healthy eating when in moderation and especially when included in a nutritious meal like a bowl of our granola. Even still, we’re fully aware that people are seeking low sugar options, and so I’ve told the Brand Manager about your concerns. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

This cereal is great and a rare find at costco for a cereal I have no criticisms of based on the ingredients label - although I worry that when you say 90% of ingredients are sourced in North America, this could be misleading considering poor workers in Mexico would also count.
BUT anyway, after eating it with my unsweetened almond milk I have to agree that there is a bit too much sweetener. I’d say “well of course, because the average American consumer has a very very high tolerance and desire for sugar.” But after thinking about it and then reading the comments on the product, I *do* think that the cereal could have a slightly reduced sugar content because those “average american consumers” i had in mind are not buying this product. Weirdos like me are… and no doubt fad dieters.
So, in final analysis, I think reducing sugar somewhat could be a win-win. More customer satisfaction (from us sugar-sensitive health nuts) and reduced cost/increased profit for the production of the cereal. Reflecting this change in some alluring way on the packaging may also spike short-term sales to offset the costs of the transition.
In any case, bravo.

I was skeptical because a lot of times the “almond” in a cereal turns out to be almond extract, which i really dislike, but there were so many good grains in this that i split the pkg. with my neighbor. IT IS NOW MY FAVORITE BOXED GRANOLA EVER! I think it is the PERFECT balance of sweetness! And i dilute everything! I’m very surprised to see comments that this is too sweet!
